This morning the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Paolo Gentiloni, received at the Farnesina Nancy Pelosi, the Minority Leader of the United States House of Representatives, who was leading a delegation of members of the House of Representatives.

In addition to the fight against Daesh, the talks focused on the stabilization perspectives of the major international crises. When discussing the two Countries’ common commitment within NATO, Ms Pelosi expressed particular appreciation for Italy’s contribution thereto.

The meeting also offered an opportunity to exchange views on the issue of migration flows in Europe and in the Mediterranean, focusing special attention on the policies promoted the European Union and by Italy’s Migration Compact proposal to counter the migration emergency. Another point on the meeting’s agenda was also the referendum on Britain’s exit from the EU, the political situation in Turkey and the current international economic cycle.

“This morning’s meeting in Rome, by virtue of the number of issues covered and the identity of views expressed, once more confirmed the extraordinary strength of our bilateral relations and the values shared by Italy and the United States of America,” Minister Gentiloni affirmed at the end of the meeting.
